Antique firearm discharges at Wheaton event space, prompting police response — Chicago Dining news

A large police response was initiated Tuesday night after an antique firearm discharged at a suburban Wheaton event space. According to officials at Wheaton Yard, the firearm fell off a chair at the restaurant and event space during a gathering on Tuesday night, and when it hit the floor the weapon fired. Wheaton police initiated a large response to the area, but emphasized that there was no threat to the public, according to a Facebook post. Wheaton Yard officials say the firearm was part of a customer’s Halloween costume. No serious injuries were reported, and police investigated the incident using Wheaton Yard’s surveillance system, according to the venue. No further information on potential charges was immediately available, and the investigation remains ongoing.
