Evanston police announced in a news release Tuesday that a 27-year-old Chicago man faces 20 Class X felony charges involving child sexual abuse material. The case began with reports in February that a man had filmed three juvenile girls undressed in a fitting room at the downtown Evanston Target, 1616 Sherman Ave. The man, Conor M. Burke, was first charged in April with one felony count of unauthorized video recording for the alleged Feb. 19 filming incident. After police found suspected child sexual abuse material on his phone, prosecutors approved a Class X count of possession of child sexual abuse material in October, and a Cook County grand jury indicted him Nov. 2 on 19 additional counts. A Class X felony carries a sentence of six to 30 years in prison. Following the February reports, Evanston police began investigating, the release said. Store surveillance footage showed a man entering a staff room and positioning a phone over the fitting room wall, according to police.
