Trio Globo with Howard Levy to perform two shows at Studio5 — Chicago Arts news

Trio Globo, an acoustic chamber jazz and world music group, is playing at Studio5 on Oct. 30. It s the first time the group will grace the Studio5 stage and it s their only Chicago-area performance, but member Howard Levy, who lives in Evanston, has played at Studio5 and other local venues several times. The band formed in 1993. 10 Grammy awards among them The group got together almost by chance, although master harmonica player and pianist Levy knew and had played with Glen Velez years earlier. Velez, a percussionist, and cellist Eugene Friesen were looking for a pianist and Levy had recently left the Flecktones. They spoke on the phone and Levy was interested. An engineer and producer friend, Les Kahn, suggested they get together in a recording studio. We ended up recording this tune that became the first track on our album, about a year later, Levy said. From left, Eugene Friesen, Glen Velez and Howard Levy will perform two shows on Oct. 30 at Studio 5. Credit: levyla
